Latvia and Romania connect the Baltic coast with the Carpathian Mountains, bridging two of eastern Europe's most compelling cycling frontiers. Romania's Transfăgărășan road climbs through tunnels carved into rock faces above 2,000 metres, offering one of the continent's most dramatic ascents. Latvian riders who ship their bikes from Riga to Bucharest trade the flat, pine-scented trails of the Gauja Valley for Transylvania's winding passes through forested highland villages.

Romania's lesser-known cycling gems include the Transalpina, which climbs even higher than the Transfăgărășan and sees a fraction of the traffic, rewarding riders with vast panoramas of alpine meadows and scattered shepherd huts. Latvian cyclists used to the gentle terrain around the Gulf of Riga discover that the Apuseni Mountains in western Romania offer technical gravel riding through karst gorges and past underground river systems, while the medieval citadel of Sighișoara provides a cultural rest stop along Transylvanian touring routes. The Danube Delta, shared between Romania and Ukraine, is Europe's largest wetland and offers pancake-flat cycling through a maze of waterways, pelican colonies, and floating reed islands that feels remarkably different from either country's interior.

Buycycle ships bikes between Latvia and Romania with full door-to-door service, professionally packaging each bike in a reinforced box with protective padding. Real-time tracking keeps you informed throughout the journey across eastern Europe's freight corridors. Transit typically takes six to eight business days between Riga and Bucharest.
